Annual Gideon Homecoming and parade scheduled
Sep 1, 2017The parade starts at 1 p.m. All entries are asked to line up at the Bradshaw Funeral Home since the floats will be judged at 12:30 p.m., prior to the parade. Only the theme designed floats will be considered for prizes and the judging will take place prior to the start of the parade, so be early.The festivities kick off at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 1, with the Miss Gideon Pageant, which will be held in the high school cafeteria. The event is sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary and they are encouraging all former queens to attend as well.The day starts early Saturday, with breakfast being served at 7 a.m. through 9 a.m. at the Community Center. The sponsors are encouraging a $7 donation for the breakfast plates.Immediately after the breakfast, from 10 a.m. through 12-noon, there will be an Alumni Reception held in the “old gym.” This event is hosted by the Class of 1967. During this time, alumni through the Class of 1969 can register and meet and mingle, visit with friends and enjoy the refreshments. Those who are interested in entering or attending the car show can register from 9 a.m. through noon, and the judges will be announcing the winners at 2 p.m. There is a $20 entry fee and trophies will be awarded for first, second and third place.There will also be awards for the Best of Show in these categories: Car, Truck, Motorcycle, and Tractor.The Car Show contestants are invited to ride in the parade as well. Visitors who miss the hot rods in the parade can find them on the Northeastern side of the high school before and after the parade.The vehicles will be judged on a 100-point scoring system and are judged on their own merit. All years, modified or original are accepted.A booth will be set up on the school grounds for those alumni from the Class of 1970 and up. This is where you can register for the door prizes and of course, try the free refreshments.Guests are encouraged to visit the Gideon Museum at the Community Center building from 8 a.m. through 10 a.m. and again from 1 p.m. though 3 p.m.The 20...
